Board game The Binding of Isaac expansion to see global roll out after reaching $6.1m on Kickstarter

A crowdfunding project to develop an expansion for the popular tabletop game, The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls has smashed through its initial goal of $100,000 by over 6000 per cent, reaching more than $6.1 million on the Kickstarter platform.

Developed by Maestro Media in association with Studio71 Games, the expansion – titled The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls Requiem – will now, thanks to its runaway success on the crowdfunding platform, be manufactured for a global audience with localised distribution in over six languages.

The campaign reached its initial funding goal within minutes of launching on the Kickstarter platform, and surpassed the $1 million mark within the first hour and a half. Within 24 hours, the campaign had hit almost $3 million and has now subsequently more than tripled the originals campaign’s funding.

As a result, The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls Requiem is now listed as one of the top ten most successful tabletop game campaigns on Kickstarter to date. That’s top ten out of more than 29,000 campaigns created in the category in the platform’s history.

The wildly popular expansion includes over 850 new cards, with another 11 upgraded components and an additional 130 bonus cards added via the Kickstarter stretch goals.

The bonus cards are designed by both professional artists as well as fans who submitted samples and were hand picked by the game designer, Edmund McMillen. These cards take existing cards from the game and give unique twists to the artwork based on the style of the artists, and feature crossovers from other popular IPs including Hollow Knight, Among Us, Dicey Dungeons, Towerfall, Newgrounds, Spelunky, and more.

The original incarnation of the game was available only in English but saw massive sales and interest in non English-speaking countries, surpassing $8 million in sales post launch, with it being considered one of the best selling indie tabletop games to date.

For The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls Requiem, Maestro Media is working with over a dozen localization partners across the globe to make the game available to more fans than ever before.

Maestro Media has partnered with Asmodee Asia, Funforge, Pegasus Spiele, Magic Store Srl and SD Distribuciones to make the game available in Chinese, French, German, Italian and Spanish respectively, with more localization partners and distributors being added.
